Ready for the Weekend
It's been a productive week at work, but I am definitely ready for the
weekend. Why? Because the weather is supposed to be gorgeous and I want
to hike in it!
I found the above graphic last night (and posted it on my Facebook page) and agreed wholeheartedly with it. For so many years, whenever I tried to get in shape, or even in the Navy when I was in the best shape of my life, I only had two of the three legs: exercise and diet. I never had a fitness mindset. I was so focused on doing what I thought felt good (soda, fries, burgers, fried foods, smoking), that I never bothered to really enjoy being healthy to know it felt even better.
This isn't to say I don't enjoy a few hours of binge watching TV, or playing World of Warcraft, or having pizza. Shoot, for lunch today, I fully plan on a Quarter Pounder and small fry from McDonald's. But I don't love to do those things all the time now. Now, I much prefer my yoga, and my frozen grapes, and my fish (OMG fish... sooooo addicted to fish... had rainbow trout for the first time last night and YUM).
My mindset has gone from "as little healthy as possible," to "as much healthy as possible," with anything else I want in moderation (except soda and cigarettes - those have gone the way of the dodo). I feel balanced now in a way I never have. Even when I first started the 12-Week Shape-Up! I was trying to deny myself the old foods I love and beating myself up when I had them. But in the last couple of weeks, I've found that balance, and can enjoy the bad things without feeling guilty, or the good things without feeling deprived.
Do you have all three legs? If not, maybe you're not ready. I sure wasn't. Not for 20 years. But hopefully that "something" kicks in for you and you get all three legs, you stop falling over, and you succeed at your lifestyle of healthy living!
