Prep for Success
It's Friday, so dance like no one's watching. Or like everyone's watching.
Just dance!
It's time to unwind from another busy week and prepare for the week ahead. How are you doing this week? Did you keep up with your new goal and your previous week's goal? Did you slip? Don't use the weekend to reward yourself for good behavior by getting off-track, or by beating yourself up for slipping with a pint of ice cream, use the weekend to keep good habits going, or to get back on track.
One way to set yourself up for success is to set aside some time during the weekend to prepare ahead for the week.
Tough Love, Drill Sergeant-Type Note: There is no possible way that anyone is so busy they can't carve out a half-hour from their day to plan breakfasts, lunches, and dinners for the week ahead. And if you are convinced you're so busy that you can't set aside 30 minutes for your health, then you're not yet truly committed to your health. We're all committed, though, right? Right?! RIGHT?!! Yes we are!
Back on track, planning for the week ahead can be as simple as writing down what you want to eat as a general guideline, or it can be drawing up complex menus, shopping for the week, cooking for the week and freezing meals for re-heating, pre-bagging lunches, etc. It depends on what you need to stay on a healthy path.
The same goes for exercise. Take some time over the weekend to think about next week's activities and what you'll do in the event of rain/injury/things eating into your time. For example, I have a "walk after dinner" goal for the week, but for the last two nights "after dinner" it was pouring down rain. I waited until the rain stopped, and then, even though it was 10 PM both times, went for my walk. I also have my bike set up on a trainer in my living room in case the rain didn't stop.
I am the queen of excuses - I've spent 30 years making them in regards to my health. Now that I'm truly committed to change, I can see where the time can be found to make positive changes, and that's with an 8-year-old and THREE jobs and finding time to watch a couple of episodes of the Brady Bunch before bed. If i can find time, we all can. So make this weekend count!
