My Infallible Truths of Healthy Lifestyle Changes
I'm a serial dieter. I've not tried every fad, but I have tried to lose weight healthfully over and over again. I KNOW what I need to do to lose weight, but the practicing what I preach bit is much more difficult.
This time on the wagon, I've taken a hard look back at why other attempts failed, and what I've come to learn that - with me - there are certain infallible truths:
This time on the wagon, I've taken a hard look back at why other attempts failed, and what I've come to learn that - with me - there are certain infallible truths:
- I can't have my favorite breads, even in moderation. That doesn't mean I can't have any breads; it means I can't have my favorites, such as Cheddar Bay Biscuits, or Olive Garden breadsticks, or Little Caesar's Crazy Bread, or any sliced, soft white breads. A hunk of french bread at Panera? I can do that, though.
- I hate gym-based exercise. I feel like a mouse on a wheel in gyms, and I really hate the wasted time in travel to-and-from the gym. Get me outside, especially in competitive endeavors.
- I can't exercise in bits while at work (e.g., at lunch). I have a condition primary focal hyperhidrosis which is basically a long way to say I sweat more than the normal person. It's embarrassing and limiting socially, and even more so when trying to follow trainer suggestions and fit in exercise wherever.
- I must journal, all the time, and probably forever. I am bad with portion control and knowing what I've shoved in my mouth. I start out healthy changes with the right portions and being very careful with my diet, but eventually I let bigger portions and bad habits creep back in. And you know when the creeping begins? The moment I stop writing down what I eat. So I'm finally resigned to food journaling for life.
Do you have any infallible truths you've come to learn about yourself over the years that have sabotaged your healthy efforts? Truths you plan on addressing this go-round?
