Haters Gonna Hate

Yesterday on the way into work, the trio on the morning show I listen to were talking about people on diets and how annoying they were. I was expecting then to talk about things like fad diets, unhealthy diets (often one and the same), and how it should be a lifestyle change, not a diet.

Instead, they went on and on about how their friends start these new, healthy lifestyles and then want to shove that lifestyle down the throat of everyone they know. Or how the newly healthy friends post pictures of their dinners. Or how the newly healthy friends have their weight loss or exercise trackers post updates to Facebook.

And it made me mad.

When you've spent a lifetime practicing poor eating habits and not exercising, and decide to take your health and well-being into your hands, you are making just as massive and important a change in your life as getting married, or converting to a new faith/religion, or having a child. Of course you're going to be proud of the changes. Of course you want to share them with others. And if you see people making the same mistakes you did, of course you want to help them course-correct.

Yes, I agree there might be a point where it's too much. Too many "God" updates, too many baby pictures, too many "my fiance is PERFECT" updates will drive anyone bonkers, but they weren't talking about "too much." They were talking about people doing it at all.

And to that I say, "Deal with it."

We have every right to be proud of the changes we're making in our lives. We have every right to share out successes. We have every right to Instagram a meal we made from scratch that is 1000% healthier than our old fast food go-to.

Don't let de-motivators slow you down. Keep at it. Keep working at eating better and exercising more. And keep sharing your successes. And be content in the fact that while they are on the sidelines watching the fun and wishing they could be in it, you'll be the one running from the zombies in a 5k, or getting muddy in a mud run, or bungee jumping, or sliding down a water slide, or riding a roller coaster.

The best revenge is a life well lived. So live it!
